to sr20det or not

I just bought a 1990 240sx fastback and want to do a lot of mods to it. I read alot of stuff saying that a good engine swap is to put in a sr20det. Would it be better to do that or to build the crap out of the stock ka24? Was there any cars that came stock with a sr20det rear wheel drive and what years were they (cars that were sold in america that is)? Or is there a better engine to go with?

Ok I may sound like a bitch, and I'm sorry if I do, but how can you buy a car not knowing anything about it? Do some research before you buy something.

RWD SR20DET engines were NEVER equipped in a 240sx from the factory.

Which KA do you want to build the crap out of ? KA24E (which came in 89-90) or KA24DE (which came in 91-94 and minor changes in the 95-98 S14 KA version)
And how would you go about it ? Turbo or NA ?

Do some more reading on the subject.

how the hell did the b18c5 motor come into this? were talking about nissans that are RWD not hondas with FWD...the hell..

Assuming you have the KA24E, you really cant do much to it if you wana make it go really fast.. even if you turbo it....you have to reenforce the engine so it will stand up against your foot on the throttle.

For s13s i say SR20DET or Rb25DET it....but then again..i eat my own shit..moooooo!! tacos!!

derek - you're an idiot.

n00bie - do some research before buying a car. 240SX's didn't come stock with an SR, and they never have. Silvia's and 180SX's in japan did, but never the 240SX. just because you "read" somewhere that the SR is a good engine, it doesn't mean it's the engine for you. do you drag race or do you track race? if you answered drag race, then put a turbo on your KA. it's a better drag engine. if you like the twisties, then get an SR. it's more tuned for track racing.

I have to agree with S13, it is best that you do a s**t load of research before you buy any kind of car. I have been trying to do some research on 240's for about a year now and I am still a n00b at it...so get to work at the research

research.......

normally I do research something before I jump into it, but I had a chance to buy this 1990 240 for a couple of hundred bucks. It has 32000 original miles on a one owner car. All it needed was a radiator and the passinger side front fender has a dent in it. Sometimes in life you have to take a risk or what fun is it. I knew that the 240 didnt come with an sr20det, I was asking if there was any other Nissans that was sent to the states that had it.

NO.

Once again, do some research before you ask dumb question.

They were availble in F,R, & AWD variations depending on what kind of cars they came from... Here is something else to add... The SR from the RNN14 was the only one to come with ITBs... Ah... The sound of an ITB...

As much as I would like to agree with you, I cannot...

An SR and KA are both good for drag and twisties, I know plenty of people using both KA (s/dohc) and SR (stock/heavily modded) for both purposes and while it does sound resonable to drag with KA (low-end torque), theres SOOOO MANY drag SRs in the US, Japan, and everywhere. Just look at Jun's lemon S14, posted 8's or something a while back. Only KA I heard of doing impressive (below 10 secs) times was that Asian (Vietnamese?) dude's S14 (with full interior) down in Texas (I think), its a crazy car.

So what I'm trying to say is... Its not the engine mind you, its how its modified/tuned.

Too bad TY, Greaser, etc, aren't here... There could be a full out SR and KA debate by now.

HAHAHAHAHA.

Been through enough of those battles its almost pointless cause everyone is right in there own perspective. Just getting an SR cause ppl tell you its better then the KA is missleading. Yes i have to agree i do like the SR alot more then the KA but that dosent mean my KA sux.
