Quick Speaker Question
Hey all,
I am selling my 96' Thunderbird and going with a smaller Cougar. However, my question here is about my audio system. Right now, my T-Bird has two 6x8 speaker locations- rear panel and on the doors. As mentioned, both are 6x8's. My question is, are these speakers adaptable to a 99' Cougar? Someone told me they were before, but I test drove one the other day and noticed that it has circular grilles on the doors. They just don't look like you would be able to put 6x8's behind there. Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

'99 Mercury Cougar according to Crutchfield has 6 1/2 door speakers and 6x8's in the rear deck.

Hey again,
Thank you for responding, especially so quickly! However, I was looking at crutchfield too and that's pretty much the reason I am confused now... Take a look at this link http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...=0&cc=01&avf=Y Then, at the top of that page, towards the left, it has a link that says SPEAKER LOCATION. When I clicked on that, it said that 6x8's could be used in the front. I am so confused Thanks again!

My guess is that the back of 6x8's can fit into the same hole as 6 1/2's. To make sure, you can buy the 6x8's for the rear deck first and see if they fit in the hole. If they do then you can buy 6x8's for the front, if not then you have your 6x8's for the back and you can buy the 6 1/2's for the front. Process of elimination, ain't it great!

Hey again!
First of all, thanks again! Secondly, pertaining to my dilemma, I am getting rid of my 96' Thunderbird which had 6x8's in the front and back. Basically, I am trying to see if I have to buy new speakers for the cougar I will hopefully be getting soon. You see, the speakers in my T-Bird cost me $140.00 and $150.00 per set. Obviously, they are pretty darn good speakers worth the cost to me...as long as I can put them in the cougar. But, i guess you are right- process of elimination is really the only way! Thanks again!

Call your local stereo shop and ask a professional. They have experience in the field and probably a little more knowledge too. They should be able to help out.
