1940 Ford Pickup Streetrod

I have just started this old but very nice Monogram kit. I remember building it as a kid and always liked the opening dors and the overall detail of the kit with separate frame, opening hood, tailgate etc.

Anyway, here is the progress:
I started by mocking up the body and started to prime some panels.
The fit and amount of flash and mould lines are much worse now than when I built this kit the last time like 20 yrs ago.It is also premiere for my new home made spray booth..:



Putting the car on it's wheels to check the stance revealed it sits much too high:



I mocked up the stance I wanted with some old wheels from a motorized chevy pickup I scrapped many years ago. The wheels chrome is in bad shape though.



Wheels were stripped in chlorine and the front axle was dropped, and the rear axle was lowered as much as possible.



Then it was time to decide on a paint scheme. I was thinking a little in the rat-rod direction at first, but decided to try something different. The fenders are painted gloss cream yellow:



And the rest of the truck was painted matte dark grey:



Together I think it looks pretty cool:

I then decided to add a tow-hitch. I probably will make a trailer for it out of the old kit i built when I was a kid. I still have the rear fenders and some other stuff saved.



I then decided to live it up a bit by adding some graphics to the doors. The decals comes from the scrap box
They were covered by matte clear to blend in with the grey. I then sprayed some grey over the decals to tone them in.

When it comes to the engine I have chose something a bit unusual.
It is about half a Ferrari Testarossa engine and some other stuff from the scrap-heap that I converted into a straight six some years ago !
It was meant to become a turbo engine for another project but I decided it would stay NA and fit the ford

First I made some solder headers for it:



Then I continued with the inlet manifold and MAF. The plenum chamber and MAF was schratch built, and the intake runners are from the Testarossa. is shot with tamiya gloss black, and then shot with some alclad chrome, and the valve cover is alclad aluminum:



Mounted in the chassi. I slanted it a bit, and put on the Ford automatic gearbox from the pickup kit. What a strange driving experience that would be i reality huh?




Then I glued the hinges on the cab and doors.
These did of course not fit when I assembled them afterwards so they had to be re-glued with the dooor in place..




The interior is coming along aswell This kit has a lot of parts. For example the doors have a separate door card:



The wheels were shot with Alclad chrome over tamiya gloss black:

so let me get this straight you have t0 shoot it in gloss black before you alcad?

Yes. On the Alclad chrome you need a gloss black coat under the chrome to get the correct reflection. Alclad calls for a gloss black enamel coat, but I found it works pretty good also with tamiya acrylic.

I'm not sure where to find these kit's anymore. I bought mine on an online auction site.
