3rd Gen si Problems

>The engine seems to have a lot of lag under 3k rpms, and i mean a Lot!
>It's very difficult to spin the tires, in fact, when floored, the car feels like it would rather stall than spin the tires.
>In 2nd gear, the more gas you give it, the slower you go, but if you ease off the gas, there is this small niche that opens up the throttle just right, and it pins you in your seat for a few seconds.
>The rest of the higher gears are very similar to 2nd, but not as extreme.
>Let's say i was going up a hill at 35 mph, and decided to floor it; the engine would nearly stall and roughly take me up the hill with minimal acceleration.
>The Idle is very rough.
>Going 0-60: 0-15 unavoidably slow, 15-25 Fast, 25-45 usually fast, 45-60 usually slow. My best time is probably ~14 seconds.
>The Lude is on its second engine, which says B20A on it. Shouldn't there be a 5 at the end?
>MPG: I usually get about 20 in town, and 26 on the freeway.

Would an enige tune up fix these problems? If so, how much would it co$t? The only thing i have done so far is use 91 octane, and injecter cleaner, which doesn't seem to do much. Any Help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.

hay i think i mit help yo but im not sure okay. the resaon that you have a B20A on it dosen't mean that it is a B20A5. they are two different engines. the B20A is a jdm engine. it is a faster engine as well. my friend has a 3rd gen prelude and he has a B20A5 stock engine.

Did you do the engine swap or who did, because some engine swap have prombles like something got huct up wrong or not at all.

Hey, thanks for the help with the engine. I didn't do the swap. The guy i bought it from said that it was his sisters car, and she forgot to check the radiator fluid, and lost the engine. I geuss her dad took it to a shop to have the engine replaced. I don't know too much about it, but i sure hope i have the jdm B20A!!!! Now if i can just get it running well!!

It sounds like its not getting either enough spark, (fault with ignition system, timing etc) or not enough fuel (fault with fuel pump, ECU, etc)

First thing you need to do is check for codes on the ECU.

Pull the carpet up on the passangers side and then with the ignition on (but the car not running) watch the little LED light, and count the flashs.
(Im pretty sure thats how it works)

i would put money on what moppie said. i would think more of the spark then the fuel tho. but they both could be right.

more answers can be found at the 3gen forum of www.preludepower.com

your car is running crappy as hell. mine had 28ish mpg with bad rings. now i get about 26 with a rebuilt and modded motor.

you may be getting too much fuel if it's boggy under 3k.
the shorter intake runners open at 3-3500k, which is why you'll feel the power surge.

auto or stick?

autos suck in the 3gen.

Thanks for all the input!! I will be sure to look into everything stated, asap. I've never heard of that ECU test, sounds very interesting, and i will be sure to try it out. Today there seems to be a new problem; it usually starts right up, but i had to crank it a few times before it fired. I hope this is just in relation to everything else.

flylwsi,
It's a 5 spd!! I won't drive anything else. I'm an anti auto guy, can't stand them!!

Yeah, I'd also have to lean toward too much fuel. The best thing for you to do might be to grab an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, that way you can control the fuel as you wish. good luck
