1996 grand voyager 3.0l 3 speed. The transmission gave up so i installed a used one. Everything was shifting fine but once in a while it didn't want to go like it was going to stall. it did this for half a block nad then everything was fine for about 10 klms and it does it again Service engine light came on so we scanned it and gave a code of p0743.change the solenoid and now it dosn't want to switch out of first gear any ideas.

Did you clear the code after the repair? If so, are you still getting the code? If so, check the circuit between the TCM and the TCC solenoid. The fault indicates either an open or short in this circuit.

Sometimes, while doing a tranny swap on an older Chrysler vehicle, dirt gets into the electrical plugs... Clean them out and then put some dielectric grease on them.. Also, sometimes the input shaft sensor or the output shaft sensor plugs get screwed up... they make replacement repair plugs for them; if you pull on the wire instead of the black plastic plug, then pins can come out of the ends... If you are ONLY in first gear, I would suspect the input/output shaft sensors/plugs... You may want to try to use your old sensors and try them as well... But you should be getting OTHER codes... That code is for the TCC solenoid... Use a scanner that shows "pending" codes as well... Or just drive it for a few miles, and the code should become a "hard" code...
Make sure any grounds are where they should be as well... Mike |

TCC circuit is very simple circuit. Possibly the govenor tubes are not propery seated in the housing when you put the valve body back in the trans or the throttle pressure linkage is off or binding, Initial problem sounds like a sticking govenor.

I didn't look that it was a 3 speed... For get my last post...
Yeah, since you dropped the valve body, the governor tubes must not be aligned right and not in their respective holes... Mike |

No. The 3.0 has a radiator hose running through the top of the transmission and the torque converter is physically smaller... |
