Air bag replacement

My daughter's 96 Escort LX sedan was involved in a collision in which both air bags were deployed. I found some replacement air bags on ebay. What else is involved in this repair? Do I need to replace the left and right sensors? And is there anything else need replaced or reset? Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Air bag replacement

You won't need to replace the sensors unless they have been physically damaged in an accident. Before working on an airbag system disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait at least one minute. There is a fuse inside the air bag module that blows when the bags are deployed, so you will have to get a module in addition to the air bags. There is no provision to replace the fuse. Make sure that the electrical plugs on the air bags are pushed together with a LOT of force because they will throw a code if not clicked together really tight. Fit the electrical connectors together like you normally would and then apply a lot of force until you feel them click. The module is located inside the console. Everything else is pretty much straight and forward.
