Air Intake and its safety

I have heard mixed things from some people on putting on a CAI on your highmileage or even low mileage car . Saying that that much induction actualy hurts the longevity of your engine ? Whether this be on a v6 ford or an IL4 civic.

My 02 cents is that you dont really induce MORE air .. you just enhance the way you induce it. Thats why you dont put a 5" diameter pipe there. Stay with a 2.5" for 4cyl and maybe 3" for 6cyl and you'll be fine.

doesn't hurt ur motor. no...adding any type of modifications to a stock car isn't GOOD for it, but its not going to kill the motor by anymeans.

Usually people who install aftermarket parts drive their car a little harder which means they usually put more wear and tear on the car quicker than the usual utilitarian.

But there are always risks too when running aftermarket parts, like the Cold air intake. You have a risk of sucking up water if you submerge it, aftermarket exhausts are lighter, but rust out a lot quicker than OEM equipment, aftermarket suspensions put more stress on the subframe of the car and suspension components, larger wheels/tires put more stress on the hub, brakes, and suspension components, body kits usually put more aerodynamic drag on the car killing mpg.

on ANY car really. unless it actually serves a purpose (auto cross guys have HUGE wings, but they are there to serve a point), then they don't matter for FWD or RWD.

Mmm,m they will do more on a RWD car then a FWD car. They do serve a purpose - im just not sure how well some of those wings actually WORK. Regardless, anything you change on your car will effect SOMETHING else...

i do agree that most of them are pointless, but they serve JUS as big a purpose on the FWD cars if they are done correctly. please explain how they do more on a rwd car? i understand u'd think that they would cause down force on the rear wheels, but they do the same for a FWD car. since u'd have to reach VERY high speeds for them to serve the purpose of force down on rwd cars...they are equally needed for each FWD and RWD.

Oh man, I've seen some serious damage from table wings! I knew a guy that had a huge aluminum one, and it dreated so much drag, that it actually BENT the d00d's trunk lid from the wind catching wind at high (90-100mph) freeway speeds. So gay!

the only GOOD way to make your car faster, is to buy a faster car.

and just for the record wings are very cool and the real wings (not aluminum T wings) create the proper amount of downforce needed to keep traction at any speed. Drag effects are minimal. I know. I tested it.:smoker2:
