Esp/bas

Yesterday morning i was driving and the car started dragging the front drivers side wheel. It was like the car was tapping on the brake while I was hitting the gas. As I was getting the car back home the ESP/BAS light and the car with the swervies came on. Then it stopped dragging the tire. I'm going to bring it to the dealer, but does anybody know what could have happened. I have a 9 month old and now I'm scared to take her in the car. Thanks!

Re: Esp/bas

No experience with this but from looking on the internet you aren't alone. The ESP/BAS system helps you maintain control of the van during emergency maneuvers by working in conjunction with the annti-lock brake system. It consists of a control module, sensors and wire harnesses connecting them. A fault anywhere in that trio will create your problem. One common fix appears to be changing the clockspring in the steering wheel. Clockspring? It's a coil of wire that extends and retracts as you turn the steering wheel. It maintains electrical contact with all the switches and an apparant Electronic Stability System (ESP) sensor in the steering wheel. I would take the car in asap. Hopefully they will connect a specialised scanner, find a fault code on the system and get you on your way pronto. I'd bet you have a warranty that will cover it. If not, be prepared to spend some bucks. If the clockspring is bad - $300. Add possible damaged brake pads and rotors and you're approaching $700.
