Chevy Suburban 2003 8.1 gasoline

intermitant non start vehicle can run for days then every now and then will not start, when vehicle eventually starts its difficult to pinpoint fault sound like fuel starvation but fuel pump working need some help.

Check fuel pressure for up to par when no start.
Any security lights on or add on anti theft?

Re: Chevy Suburban 2003 8.1 gasoline

Next time it doesn't start, crawl under and tap the starter with a hammer or similar blunt object. If it starts, then the starter brushes or the contacts on the rotor are worn out and landing on a dead spot where no current can flow. The brushes are replaceable, the rotor isn't...have to replace the whole starter.

Hope this helps!

Check the relays related to the injectors and starter. the relays are located under the hood in the engine compartment fuse center. I've hadmy truck just shut off while driving and a no crank situation subsequently. when i have moved the relay related to the injector ignition you can hear it clicking and making contact. engine will turn over. it is itermitent on my vehicle.

your issue is the engine does not start on occation. since this does run correctly when it does start , and no dtc engine codes were found ,this may be the ECT sensor. the sensor or wires/connector are defective..this will give the PCM the wrong engine temp causing the injectors not to open long enough for a cold start...

since you mention fuel pump , I know you do have a good cranking of the engine.. Fuel pressures must be measured with a guage as mentioned by MT 2500...this is the other possibility , of why the engine won't start and no codes.

"WITH" dtc codes the MAF and crank/cam sensors as well as other componets can cause this..

Re: Chevy Suburban 2003 8.1 gasoline

I have a 04 suburban 8.1 liter.

Mine did similar, they have a bulletin to replace certain fuel pumps, they said that certain altitudes affected the fuel pump so they replaced mine with the new version.

I dont live in Mt Everest, just Denver.
