Alternative fuel pump

Hey,

I have an 87 ford escort GL with the 1.9l. I need to replace my fuel pump, I think. Do I need one that is the exact fit for this car, or can I find a fuel pump that is pretty close to what this car needs? According to the Haynes manual, it says that this engine is CFI and that the pressure is 14.5 psi with the fuel. Is there any other fuel pump that can deliver that kind of pressure other than an exact pump for the car? I only ask because I don't want to spend $70 - $150 bucks if I don't have to.

Re: Alternative fuel pump

Break down and spend $70 for a new pump. The fuel injectors are calibrated for an exact amount of pressure. You need a OEM pump.
