F-350 - Syntheitic or regular oil?

Just wondering what you fellow F-350 owners use for engine oil. I plan to stick to the mainetenance schedule (every 6 months).

What year, what engine? Synthetic has its place, but it is costly, and I don't care what oil scans say and all that bull you cannot tell me that 30000 mile oil changes are safe for anything.....
I know you said you will stick to the schedule, but alot of people don't.

A High quality dino would be fine. Do not skimp and get cheap oil. The epa has got the diesels running so hot in areas the oil goes now that cheap oil will coke.
Synthetic is good but it is very high. I'm talking 125 dollar oil changes.....

Re: F-350 - Syntheitic or regular oil?

my take on synthetic i have a 97 7.3 145000 i went syn oil but switch back if you look around hi mile moters are prone to leak after the swich is what mine did so i switch back and the leaks stopped but in alot of cases if you switch change it every other oil change about 10000 mile just change the filter every 5000 and your looking at 150 + $ to switch

I miss mine ALOT. I had a 97 too, best truck I had up until it and best I've had yet..
I also ran synthetic for about 20k before I sold it. I had mine from 65k miles, drove it everyday and changed the oil like you should. As long as it doesn't sit so that seals harden up, and it is maintained like it should be, it shouldn't leak. Like he said though, if gonna do it, it is better to start early, not high mileage. The absolute best side note of the synthetics is they are generally more stable at given temperatures and they can cover a wide range of viscosities. I ran 5w-40 and the winter starting with 5w is amazing. The starter has very little load even at icy cold temperatures at that low of a viscosity.
Albeit a smaller concern with your truck, as the old body style 7.3 had OEM starters that left a ton to be desired, the injectors were also fired with oil pressure where yours is not, so the older trucks had exxagerated effects that made the switch worth it, not sure yours would be...
