Rearview mirror swap?

I have a 2000 LS with the auto dimming mirror and it has some marks on it from the old lady that previously owned it (looks like marks from one of those big wide view add ons). I've only been seeing the mirrors that have the compass in them. Can they be swapped out? Can the auto rain sensor still remain? Is it easy or a pain?
It only bugs me a little every time I look up to see what's in the mirror and I see small distortions due to the marks.

You can change to the compass mirror but without additional wiring the compass will not work. The auto wipers have nothing to do with the mirror and would not be affected.

Does anyone know if there is an additional box (for lack of better words) that would attach to the windshield that contains the electronics to make the compass work?

It's all built into the mirror (for 04 to 06 at least).

Bought a nice standard auto-dimming mirror on ebay and the swap couldn't have been easier. Took less than 5 minutes total to swap the mirrors. Looking at the original mirror, it had leaked and that had caused the mirror to have strange shadows thru-out.
