I'm just getting started with the hobby and building a Tamiya Nissan 350Z at the moment. Althought not experienced, I have read a ton of information/tips from this forum and other websites. My questions are:
1) I have tried to spray the primer (with airbrush) to the body 5 times already, with disastrous results every single time. I always end up removing the primer and redoing everything again. Quite frustruating. But it gets better every time. When you guys first got started, how long it was before you did a satisfactory paint job? 2) From a lot of post on this forum, I see that many of you use the Tamiya spray cans, even for the car interior. Is there a reason why you prefer spray cans as opposed to an airbrush? With all the models you build, and at $4-$5 a can, doesn't it end up costing a lot. Plus, wouldn't an airbrush give you more freedom to mix colors? 3) I'm looking for a good primer for acrylic paints to spray using an airbrush.I've the the FAQ and did an extensive search on this forum, but I can't find anything on this. Most people here suggest primers in spray cans, such as Tamiya or Krylon. Can any of you recommend a primer for acrylics that comes in a bottle? |

Welcome!
As far as cost goes, that went out the window the moment you joined AF!!! I'm rarely satisfied with any of my paintjobs because I find small things nobody else can find and they bug me to death!! I don't use acrylics so I can't help you there but I would recommend Tamiya primer in a can because of its versatility with nearly all types of paint. Enjoy your stay and post pictures!!

as for the spray cans, I Spray the paint in a cup then pour it in the bottle then airbrush it on. As for the acrylics you can use Model masters or almost any other kind of primer.

To answer question 2.....i find the Tamiya can to be perfect for the amount of paint flow they give out.
They are nice and quick....just a warm up, shake and your away .Plus the price of spray guns is very expensive here.
