87 Escort 1.9L timing belt issue

I have an 87 Ford Escort GL with the 1.9L engine in it. My father in law had it sitting in a field for about 3 years without it running. Needless to say, it's kinda rusty. But it's still in pretty good shape for just sitting there for 3 years. Anyway, the timing belt must have broke on it and I would like to put a new one on. I have removed the timing belt cover, and aligned the camshaft and the crankshaft. But, I can't get the crankshaft pulley off to get to the crankshaft sprocket. It looks pretty rusted on there. Is there any way to get this off? I have tried lubricant to see if it will loosen up the bolt any, but so far have had no luck. If I can’t get the crankshaft pulley off, is there any other way to get the timing belt on? I even tried to use a screwdriver to pry the flywheel where the starter connects so that the crankshaft won’t move when I try to take that bolt off. But no luck with that either. Any ideas?

I think I have just the ticket for you, but first you'll have to put the starter back in. Once you've done that put a breaker bar with a socket on the crank pulley bolt. Lower the car until the breaker bar will hit the ground on the right hand side when the crank pulley is turned. While holding the breaker bar and socket in place have an assistant hit the starter. He may have to hit the starter more than once, but that stuck bolt will be history. I've always used an impact gun, but this way will work just as well.

Hey, another quick question. How bad is it to have a little screw driver, no more than 2 in long, in the flywheel housing? I tried to get it out of there, but I could not find it. Everything still spins fine right now, but I don't want that screw driver getting caught in the flywheel.

Remove the access plate you use to unbolt the torque converter. Use a small magnet on an extension the transmission should be non magnetic so you can try to fish it out.

Another question. Where is the fuel pump relay located on this car?

Fuel pump relay is located on the ECU bracket under the drivers side dash back near the firewall. There are two relays, a green/black and a brown/black. If memory serves me correct the green/black one is the fuel pump relay.

You will need a pulley puller to get that crank pulley off. The right tool will make quick work of it.
