Last little bit of help before i junk my car.
If i can't figure out what's wrong with my car by thursday, i have someone lined up to take it off my hands.
its an 88 park ave, and the fuel pump fuse seems to be the main problem. the fuse relay is good, the ecm is good, the fuel pump is good, the fuel filter is good. when i turn the key on, the fuse blows. i disconnect the harness from the fuel pump wire, and it sill blows when i turn the key. the wire/fuses are still in good condition. none are burned out or mushy that shows signs that its blown. i know the oil pressure switch or so mething is also along this line, so i was hoping someone could enlighten me to some troubleshooting for that, and if not, its time to tell the car bye bye. i really don't want to get rid of this car since it was my main means of transportation and winter weather seems right around the corner. if its something i can do that doesn't cost me thousands to fix it, i'll do it. thanks for any help in advance.

Take a look at the wiring diagrams at autozone.com, repair guides to see what is in that circuit.

Quote:
it is the fuel pump relay, fuel pump, fuel pump prime, oil light, oil pressure switch, and fuse relay center. thats what i got when i looked at the diagram.

Re: Last little bit of help before i junk my car.
Try disconnecting the auxiliary oil pressure switch and isolating the wires, then power up the pump.
Instead of feeding it a constant supply of fuses you could test circuit resistance and save the plastic and tin. When the resistance increases to about 1.5 ohms or more you should be safe putting a 20A fuse back in it. Ideally, the pump should present about a 4-6 ohm load. Another possibility is what I found on a Blazer. The underhood electrical center had insulation breakdown and was crossing curcuits and grounds. A used UEC from a bone yard for $15 solved a lot of issues. I'm not sure it your '88 has that type system or not, but if it does it could be worth investigating.
