Unhappy 97' Buick wont accelerate

Ok first off I have to say I know nothing about cars. From my experience the car was driving fine, I was on the E-way and tried accelerating when it wouldn't let me, instead pressing the gas pedal would actually slow the car down and eventuall lock up and die. I would have to put the car in park and completely shut the car off. When I would start it back up it would drive again for about 1/2mile-1mile and do the same thing. I know I probably shouldn't have kept driving it but its my only vehicle and I'm currently in school so i had to get to school. Before the car finally died I had to pull over let it sit for about 10minutes, I tried to start the car and it was jumping like it wanted to go it did this in park I put it in drive it was still trying to go with foot on brake then it died and would not start again. PLEASE HELP ME..the codes that came up at Auto Zone were, P0141, P0440, P0300, P1406, AND P0140. THANKS. Thanks to those that replied. i changed the crank position sensor but nothing changed. it stalls while its in idle, and while driving. Would a bad egr valve cause this?

Re: 97' Buick wont accelerate

Good morning,

Sounds like a Buick problem we have had; the problem was (on two Buicks) that the crank position sensor went bad. After we let is sit for a while, it would start and run OK for a short time.

You need a reasonable repair shop to assist you with this.

Regards,
Jack C.

Re: 97' Buick wont accelerate

You could have a bad crank position sensor; however, you have a lot of other codes that are unrelated. Unfortunately, if you don't know anything about cars, this will require some in-depth diagnostics from a reputable & professional shop. The problems mentioned below may be too complicated for you, tire shops & Pep Boys to resolve.

P0140 Oxy Sens Circ No Activity Detected (bank1 Sens2)
P0141 Oxy Sensor Heater Circ (bank1, Sensor2)
P0440 Evap Emission Ctrl Sys Error
P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P1406 EGR Valve Pintle Pos Circ
