P0305 Code Trouble

Hello to all again,

A couple weeks ago I reported my engine trouble light on my 01' Durango 4.7 liter V-8 came on and since it was a first for me I decided to reset the light and see if the engine would trip the light again. Well just a little while ago I once again noticed the light is on again and the P0305 code was tripped. Does anyone have an idea as to what has happened and what will it cost me for the repair Again this is the first time I got this type of engine code. My little V-8 has been very reliable until now. The engine appears to run smoothly

Can't take it in right away now but perhaps in another month. All services has been done by the dealership and my last tune up was done on scheduled. I currently have just over 85K.

hey...i used to have the same problem...it seems that the car will misfire every now and then or at least that's what the computer will think its doing. (thus giving you a check engine like with that code) sometimes the spark plug wires will have a small break in them causing them to jump electricity into another wire or ground, never reaching the spark plug. so i would start by cheking the condition of the wires before taking it to the dealer. you may also want to check the spark plugs, make sure that they are not damaged and it has the correct gap on them.

Need to figure out if it's a single misfire on a single cylinder, or random misfires on random cylinders.

As far as the code goes it indicated a misfire only but wether it ramdon or possibilly my panel is bad my engine trouble light goes on and off at ramdom and doesn't stay on all the time.

Currently the light is off so today and during the weekend I drive it again to see if it activates. Again this is the first time I had this problem happen to me as through all the years my engine has beem pretty much 99% bullet proof!!!!! The only other time the panel lite was when it told me my O2 sensor was bad. Still I wonder because I just had a service on my truck and all seemed well until I added myself a bottle of Gumout/Regain fuel cleaner to the gas tank.

I'm plannng to take it in to the delership for them to look at again but that's in a couple weeks. Right now my Impala need service so I have to get that out of the way first.

Need to check your maintenance schedule for air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, and HO2 sensor replacement.

Only replace the upstream HO2 sensor, they are used for the Air/fuel mix.

Caution - Only replace spark plugs when the engine heads are cool, they are too easy to cross thread!

When I had my last service which was two weeks before this issue occured they didn't say anything about the air filter nor the fuel filter... Spark plugs were replaced early this year and the o2 sensor was replaced some years ago when I gota code from the engine trouble light. I heard the Durango has 3 of these sensors so I don't know which one it was.

I'm hoping it's only the coil packs as I know from the past the o2 sensor is very expensive to replace. Spark plugs and ait filter is a no brainer and the fuel filter is located in the gas tank as 've heard it.

Don't scare me dude cuz this past February I gave them a grand$$$ of my hard earned money just onthe last service!!!!!!!

I know that air filters and fuel filters are a no brainer, but are often over looked.
$3500 service, because of a bad fuel filter,see

Let's hope it not the fuel filter cuz it located in the tank!!!! OK the o2 sensors may not have to do with the issue/problem cuz they last 100K BUT my spark plugs are always changed when it's time for a tune-up as per the schedule. I think/believe they use Champion.
