2006 Jetta Drivers Door panel and sensor

I have a 2006 Jetta 2.0T. Sometimes the MFD shows the driver's door isn't open, even when it is, which means the headlight dinger doesn't ding, and my husband has left the lights on and killed the battery twice. We've read through a bunch of posts on this subject and tried to fix the "sticky" door switch by spraying brake cleaner in the latch. That didn't fix the problem. Other posts say the sensor needs replaced.

So the question is... how do we get to the sensor? Does anyone have detailed information (and pictures are always helpful!) on how to remove the door panel, handle, and whatever??

Thanks!
