Fujimi 250 GTO: KA or Hobby Design?

As the title suggests, I'm looking at the GTO for a future detail project. I hope to use a Replica's of Maryland engine I have laying around but need wheels and photo-etch I suppose.

My question is, who has the best stuff in your experience. I'm not necessarily looking for least expensive.

Re: Fujimi 250 GTO: KA or Hobby Design?

C'mon guys. I find it hard to believe no one has anything to say about aftermarket details for the Fujimi Ferrari 250 GTO kit. It's been out for like, 3 years now.

Here is what I know so far. KA makes a photo etch fret for the car that is also marketed as a fujimi fret and is available in combination with the plastic kit under a new release. I see that according to the KA website wheels are now available for the Fujimi GTO too. Any rumors of an all-in-one "deluxe" detail set forthcoming? (like they did for the Revell/Protar version...)

I also see that Hobby Design has a wheel kit, a photo etch sheet, an intake trumpet kit and an exhaust tip kit available separately. (All the components of a "deluxe" set)

Are there fit problems associated with any of these products mentioned? Do the wheel kits look as good as an MFH wheel? Better? Does anyone have a link to a photo of one of these assembled?

One of the great benefits of AF is that we can share product opinions before we spend our money.

Re: Fujimi 250 GTO: KA or Hobby Design?

I got the Deluxe set from KA, because my 250GTO is a Revell kit. Looks great, and included everything you need. It's a little bit too expensive, but is ok for me.

Re: Fujimi 250 GTO: KA or Hobby Design?

I have the Fujimi 250 GTO and Hobby Design kit, but not having started the kit, and knowing some of HD's quality issues, I cannot say one is better than the other. But, the KA set is for Revell, and the HD set is for Fujimi, so that's why I settled on the HD set. HD also has metal transfers available separately for the headlight surrounds, and other chrome bits.

Actually both of them are good, is only either you got a Fujimi kit or a Revell kit.

Well hurry up and build it so you can tell us if it's worth buying! Just kidding.
Thanks for the info about the HD metal transfers. I hadn't seen those.

Here is a link to the KA "deluxe" set for the Revell/Protar RTUNED mentioned:

http://ka-models.com/product/special/ks00002.htm

and a link to the new Fujimi GTO wheels from KA:

http://www.ka-models.com/product/metal/kc24008.htm

It's difficult to tell, but the completed wheel in the photo instructions looks pretty good. I'm a bit gun shy after hearing the bad reports on some Hobby Design products recently....

Re: Fujimi 250 GTO: KA or Hobby Design?

I will, as soon as I finish my two DBS models, 3 Ferrari Californias, 2 500SLs and a 550 Maranello, and a 360 spider. Expect photos in the next couple months.

HD has great product offerings, iffy quality. But, there are no resin parts (the main HD problem) in the kit, so maybe it won't be so bad...unless the photoetch parts doesn't fit!

Here is the transfer set I was talking about:

Re: Fujimi 250 GTO: KA or Hobby Design?

Get both, and use the better ones, and save the leftover for other kits.
That's what I'm doing with Hasegawa Lotus 79 kit (Hase kit + Hase PE + Tamiya PE),
and the leftover PE goes to Tamiya Lotus 79.

I can't believe it took so long to get a response. I was holding my tongue, so to speak, because I can't say anything about the Hobby Design set, not having seen it in person. I chose the KA Models set instead because it seemed less involved; that is, there isn't as much stuff but what is included in the KA set is great. When I built my Hasegawa 250TR I used the KA photoetch and was impressed with the fantastic quality of the parts; I opted for the Hasegawa wheels on that build. For the Fujimi 250 GTO I chose the KA set because it seemed to include everything I wanted without a bunch of parts that may or may not work that well (I'm thinking in particular the window surround parts included with Hobby Design set) or that I might not even use. And I'm planning to forgo the use of etched wheels because the Fujimi wheels are astonishingly nice.

By the way, there is a KA set specifically for the Fujimi kit; they don't just make one for the Revell.

Historic Racing Miniatures makes the correct 250 GTO engine.

Nothing really. HRM's is just more detailed.

As for PE, I went with Hobby Design because it has the small machined parts. I have yet to get a set of wheels though. I will probably go with KA on that as I have been very happy with their stuff in the past.

On the same note, what's wrong with the Replica's of Maryland engine that the OP has?
Not entirely sure why I bothered pointing that out as we're not likely to be getting any sort of decent answer.

That was exactly my point.

Re: Fujimi 250 GTO: KA or Hobby Design?

Check this thread out http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=917827

It doesn't show a lot and is still unfinished but it shows the KA-models wheels and HD detail set I used.

Regards, Dan
