Angry 2001 Taurus CC & 12V oulet out at same time

I have a 2001 Taurus that has a buch of dummy lights on due to a poor air conditioner clutch repair about a year ago. My issue is that a couple of weeks ago out of no where I lost the cruse control and the 12V oulet at the same time. Checked the fuses and they appeared ok. I am probably missing something simple, but have limited skills with the electrical system. Any advice would be helpful.

Assuming your 2001 is similar to a 2002 Taurus, there is no fuse in common between the cigarette lighter, the power point, or the speed control. You mention "12V outlet" but I'm not sure if you're referring to the lighter socket or the power point. The lighter is fused by fuse F2.13 (20A) in the Central Junction Box (CJB). Fuse 1.18 (20A) is for the power point and is located in the Battery Junction Box.

For the speed control, you have fuses F2.32 (10A), F2.17 (15A), F2.27 (10A), and F2.16 (15A), all in the CJB.

I am referring to the lighter socket. I will once again check over the fuses and see if there are any that are missing. It there anything under the hood in that fuse box that may be causing the issue. My wife is going nuts without cruise I just thought the two may be connected.

There are no relays for powering either of these devices. The only item under the Battery Junction Box related to the above is for the power point, which doesn't sound like the circuit that's not working.

One thing you might check for the cruise control is the brake pedal position switch. If for some reason the brake pedal switch is out of adjustment it could prevent the cruise from engaging. That wouldn't explain the lighter socket not working. At this point I think you need to assume the two are unrelated.

You might try searching the forum for "transmission switch" or "TRS". The Transmission Range Sensor has been known to cause some pretty strange electrical issues in the Taurus. Maybe you'll find that others have experienced similar issues and only replaced their TRS to fix them.
