Revell ZR1

Has anybody actually built this kit, yet? I'm looking to get one soon and am a little surprised that I haven't seen anyone's in the completed gallery by now? Since it's a new tool for a 600+ HP car, just thought there'd be more interest.

Re: Revell ZR1

It just came out, and August is a big vacation month. I got mine a week and a half or so ago, and plan to build it soon, after I finish a rash of other models nearing completion. It looks good to me, just wish it was 1/24 scale.

Re: Revell ZR1

Thanks, I have seen it reviewed on other sites, the only downside looks to be that there's no carbon fiber decals in the US version kits (Revell AG kits get them.) But still no actual build-ups.

Just heard mine came in today, so I'll start a thread for a straight out-of-box build.

Re: Revell ZR1

Yeah, but it shouldn't be too bad to carbon fiber the necessary surfaces. The templates should be easy to create because they surfaces aren't too complicated. Just the roof and b pillars, front splitter and side skirts.

Re: Revell ZR1

Is this the one with the clear part in the hood to see the motor?

Don't forget the cheesy chrome rims. Sorry, overall I love the ZR1 but those disgusting looking things are its only downfall.

Can we say ?

Be patient. The kit is just now hitting most hobby shops, only a few offered it a couple weeks early with a special "preferred partner" program by Revell.

Considering the vast majority of the 1:1's are running the highly polished aka "chrome looking" wheels...I hate them too.

Strip the chrome and paint the wheels in the regular or dark finish paint that is also offered on the ZR1. I'm building the Viper ACR, took a minute to evaporate the chrome w/Easy Off oven cleaner. I left the clear undercoat since it was smooth. Painted gloss black, nobody would ever know how awful they looked in chrome

Re: Revell ZR1

While the surfaces should be easy to apply CF, I'm wondering what the consensus is on what pattern to use for the roof, skirts and splitter? I have a nice selection on hand here, but I'd like to see what everyone else agrees on.

The 1:1 was what I was referring to as being cheesy. Highly polished or whatever GM wants to load on you, it still looks like cheesy American chrome and personally doesn't match with the rest of the high-performance vibe they were going for.

Mmmm... American cheddar.

Re: Revell ZR1

Hmm, sounds more like sour milk? (or grapes)

The rims are awesome on the new car, what's wrong with the rims?
