91 Park Ave cranks but does not start
I'm a bit baffled by this one. I have been reading a ton of posts today trying to figure this one out.
So the 91 park ave cranks and turns over no problem. i even had a booster pack to make sure it had enough juice. The car will not start at all. So i got a fuel guage and hooked it up the the fuel pressure valve on the fuel rail. It reads right around 40psi and i hear the fuel pump turning on. So the motor seems to be getting fuel. Next i checked for spark. I hooked up one of the inline spark tools and checked every spark plug and each one is showing a spark. I tried to pull any codes from the ecu but its only showing 12, so no codes found. The icm was replaced probably about 2 years ago within the last 10,000 miles. I keep reading up on the camshaft position sensor and the crank sensor. So i bought both of them today. I was only able to replace the camshaft position sensor since it wasn't to involved. However the car still has not started. Now to my understanding from what i have been reading is if the crank sensor is bad the car would not be getting spark or fuel. It thats true then that means something else is wrong. Has anyone else had a similar situation or any other ideas? |

Re: 91 Park Ave cranks but does not start
You are getting fuel at the rail's, but is the injectors injecting fuel into the intake?

Re: 91 Park Ave cranks but does not start
I did the light bulb test on the injectors this morning. Yes the injectors are getting a signal since the bulb was pulsing when cranking the car. You can also smell fuel.
The car ran normal most the time but recently the car would start to run rough sporatically and until the other day where the car just will not start. What else can i do or check? |

Re: 91 Park Ave cranks but does not start
update....i took the car to the nearest mechanic by pushing it there. They checked out pretty much all the same stuff i did. Spark, fuel pressure, injector pulse. The mechanic said he cleaned up the maf and the car started up and was been running fine. i've had the car back for 2 days but didn't really get a chance to drive it. I went to go start it today, same problem. Cranks but does not start.
I rechecked spark and injector pulse, still good. I tried starting with the maf unplugged, still nothing. The car has 78k on the odometer and has always been taken care of. i already replaced the cam sensor. Could this be a crank sensor issue? At first i was thinking it would not be since i have spark and fuel. But can the crank sensor thow off the timing enough to where the car can not start? any input is appreciated |

Re: 91 Park Ave cranks but does not start
Don't forget the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. If you have spark and fuel, but no air due to a malfunctioning IAC valve, the engine will not start. There might also be carbon buildup on the valve and/or the passage, obstructing its proper function.
My PAU had the same symptoms once, and it turned out to be the IAC valve.

Re: 91 Park Ave cranks but does not start
UPDATE:
WHAT HAS BEEN REPLACED: CAMSHAFT SENSOR CRANK SENSOR IACV Car has spark at all 6 coil pack plugs, has injector pulse and 40psi fuel pressure at the rail. Car cranks but does not start. You can smell fuel after cranking. Can this be a ECM issue? The car has 78k and has always been well maintained. |

Re: 91 Park Ave cranks but does not start
Have you checked the voltage in/out of the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)? In addition, be sure the spring return in the TPS is not broken.
