2002 GMC Keyless Programming

I have a 2002 Gmc Safari AWD SLE...will not enter or acknowledge keyless programming. I have tried all posted technics and will not do the lock/unlock prior to holding the remote buttons. Which direction should I turn...thanks in advance John.

Re: 2002 GMC Keyless Programming

Have you tried this procedure?

1. Open the driver's door window and close all vehicle doors.

2. Insert the key into the ignition.

3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver’s door panel-continue to hold it down until instructed to release in step 9.

4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in fairly rapid succession.

5. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position (not START).

6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

7. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

8. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

9. Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The vehicle will lock and unlock the doors automatically.

10. Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously until the door locks and unlocks (this step may take up to 30 seconds).

11. Repeat step 10 for each additional transmitter.

12. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter programming mode.

Yes, as I stated in the original post, I have tried ALL procedures to enter the programming stage and it will not do the initial "lock/unlock" on it's own to show you have entered the programming stage...

Make sure you are not pressing the brake pedal at all during programming.

Re: 2002 GMC Keyless Programming

Are you certain this is a factory installed system? You can check the RPO codes to see if the vehicle came from the factory with keyless entry. In the glove box there should be a white sticker, check it for "AUO". If that code shows up, it has keyless entry, if not, it doesn't. If it's an aftermarket installed system, the factory procedure more than likely will not work.
