Rear wheel bearings...........Galant 4cyl 2000.

Is there any way of confirming that a rear wheel bearing is worn, faulty........I have a whine or similar noise which appears to be coming from the rear it's on the drive because it gets faster & slower as you accelerate & deccelerate. I had thought that it was a tire noise but I have changed the tire which was giving me front wheel vibrations & that has cured the vibrations, I had thought that the vibration & noise were the same problem.
Are rear wheel bearings difficult to change & would you need specialist tools?

Advice would be appreciated..

Les.
