Re: how to get to oil pump 98 firebird 3.8

I myself asked around and when I called autozone, pep boys, they told me that those cars don't have a oil pump. That all I needed was a oil pump replacement kit. And as fast as how difficult, could not really tell you since I only got as far as just taking the front of the motor apart, which I think is half way to where you want to be.

I'm guessing but I think you have to drop the tranny in order to drop the oil pan. you can unscrew the 20 something bolts that hold the pan, but there are only two in between the tranny and the oil pan. And I think that the new kit would go attached to the main bearing but from the inside.

tattguy_82 , go to http://www.gmpartsgiant.com/components/2002-buick-park-avenue~engine-asm-3-8l-v6-oil-pump-pan-gm00313c0100-l67m134cw69.html for a diagram of the engine components , this should show what needs to be removed to get to pump . Items # 420 and 421 are the main parts involved .I know this is listed as a 2002 Buick Park Avenue engine but the components and their locations should be the same .Good luck !
