no 2nd gear

I have an automatic 97 Maxima SE. recently the transmission hasnt shifted to 2nd at all, it jumps from first to third, plus it does not go into the final gear. When I shift it to 2 on the shifter it just idles and revs like neutral. I am guessing this means I need a new tranny, but I am hoping there may be another fix to this one...

How many miles? And when was your last tranny check(tune-up, anything)?

Maybe there is something stuck there? Dont think a new tranny is bad it can be a good thing if you get the right one.

My car has 159,000 miles on it, I hade it since 100k and no tranny tune-up...
I am having the garage look at the problem next Wednesday when they inspect the car.
