94 22RE suddenly dead as can be, no clock even and nothing when turning key
This is a 94 pick up about 134,000 miles. it was running fine, starting fine. Until today after a short freeway drive to the store it is dead. I went to start it and nothing, no clock no idiot lights no starter sound nothing.
Not sure where I am going to begin but I suspect this security or anti theft thing that might be an after market intsall. it is not here so I dont have the name of the company, but it is a flat key with 5 or 6 contacts and it plugs in about under the steering column and when it is pulled it acts like it is now. I have put it in and out several times adn the contacts look good. I dont know how these are usualy wired. Would like to jump around it or disconect it, got an idea or better. It may not be this device that is just my first inclination. Are there fuses that could do this? Appreciate any ideas or guesses sugestions, thanks |

Re: 94 22RE suddenly dead as can be, no clock even and nothing when turning key
There are some fuseable links in the engine bay fuse box that could kill the truck, but if it's an aftermarket anti-theft system, anything is possible.

Re: 94 22RE suddenly dead as can be, no clock even and nothing when turning key
can you tell me more about the fuseable links. Where I might find them how to test them. I remember in high scholl i had a 70 roadrunner and had fuseable link problem but now I could not tell you a thing about one.
FYI the security device is prolock. any help on that? I think I might start another on asking for that info. |

Re: 94 22RE suddenly dead as can be, no clock even and nothing when turning key
Ok, I am more up on fuseable links but where are they, at least the ones that could cause this problem of no power anywhere but starter I guess.
how do you check the ignition and can that block juice to everthing else? Why are these fuseable links so elusive. I have found people talk about them seen schematic that says they exist somewhere but this is not helping |

Re: 94 22RE suddenly dead as can be, no clock even and nothing when turning key
The fuseable links are in the enine bay fuse box. Sorta like regular fuses, but larger, and not plug-in like regular fuses. They are higher current, in the 40A+ range.

Re: 94 22RE suddenly dead as can be, no clock even and nothing when turning key
I found the 30 and 40 amp ones they are almost square, if those are fuseable links, they were fine. But they also plugged in like regular fuses except they had female terminals and were bigger. there is an 80 amp that wont come out and I dont see how and trying harder looks like risking breakking. it looks finre from the top. there are something else with covers on them. dont know what they are or if they come out or how they seem to be pretty snug also.
There is supposed to be two before the alternator but have not seeen them. I seen a schematic at the library and it showed that but not where or size. |

Re: 94 22RE suddenly dead as can be, no clock even and nothing when turning key
Well not many people looked and only one responded. Thanks fourwd1
I expected the problem to be slightly more complicated. I should have found it right away. You (I) should not pre plan what to expect should just follow the procedure. With no power anywhere (too long of story to tell why knowing that took time too) after several trips to the truck and hours of looking I finaly cleared my head. started at the battery and looked AGAIN at the secondary wire going to the fuse box. decided to cut back some insulation it looked good and felt good but there was no juice getting around. cut back the insul and the wire just fell off the terminal. reatatched and all is well. Got a couple bonuses from it too one is stereo after years of mono there was a speaker in there but the wires were cut. cool |

Re: 94 22RE suddenly dead as can be, no clock even and nothing when turning key
Sorry I didn't get back sooner, glad you got it worked out.
The 80A guy is one of the links, and like I said don't plug-in like a fuse, which is why it wouldn't come out. They have screw terminals underneath. The larger square things I think you may be refering to are relays.
