Ahhh! Someone please help me understand the plot to The Matrix: Reloaded!!*spoilers*

My brain feels like it's about to blow into chunks on the floor because I can't seem to understand the plot to the movie and I want to so badly! And what's so terrible is that I'm like the biggest Matrix fan in the world, and everytime I ask someone if they understood the plot thoroughly, they casually say "of course" even though I know they didn't understand ANYTHING!!!! Damn them! Maybe it's just because I saw it at night, and my brain wasn't functioning that well, or something. Ugh! I might just have to see it again, unless one of you can help! Please! And the biggest part that I COMPLETELY missed was the conversation Neo had with the architect (Actually, I kind of understood everything before that, sort of...)! God bless anyone who can help me!

What was hard to understand about the plot? Sentinels are digging to try and destroy Zion, and Morpheous thinks Neo can stop the machines through the Matrix. The Architect tells Neo that this happens every time, and that he can either choose to keep Zion going and restart the Matrix, or he can go back in the Matrix save his girl, but everybody in and out of the Matrix will die. Neo decided to save the girl, and must have a plan to save everyone. Then in the end Sentinels start attacking Zion, and the only surviour of the attack is Bane/Agent Smith.

If there's any part you need further explination on, just ask, I've seen it 4 times already.

Ohhhhh!!! Thanx a lot. It's just the architect's talk just seemed like babble because of the unneccessary words and 5 minute sentences, sorry. By the way, what do you mean when you say, restart the matrix (Sorry, that part in the movie did just kind of fly over my head)?

And also, I was understanding the part about how Neo was supposed to stop the sentinels through the Matrix by going into the building somehow and blowing off the power to the security or whatever, but how was he supposed to stop them through the Matrix (Meaning, what was he gonna do after getting in the building.)

And why did Neo meet the architect? Just to discover his purpose? I'll figure out the rest on my own when I see the movie again.Thanx a million. That is all.:sun:

i havent seen the movie yet but i can make a pretty sure guess as to what 'restart the matrix means'..

you remember in the first movie when they show the matrix, lines of green code. the matrix is just a computer, restarting it would just be restarting the computers that run the virtual reality world of the matrix.

here's the thing though. We dont actually know what is going on here. We know Morpheus thought Neo would be able to destroy the agents and any of his enemies and allow the humans free rein. We don't actually know what the architect is talking about. He gives neo the choice to save zion by destroying the matrix? (he is inside the mainframe which the keymaker got him into) or the save his girl (return to the matrix and have no shot at getting back into the mainframe). Both the fact that neo trashes the sentinels in midair and the architects somewhat confusing speech point to the commonly supposed possibility of second matrix that zion and the lot are living inside of. That would make sense seeing as neo used the same powers in the matrix as in the "real" world on the sentinels. Also the architect reffered to the fact that the machines had destroyed zion before as well as the fact that neo, like the "one" before him would restart zion. This sounds much like a cycle to keep the two forces of the machines and humans at war. Perhaps one side wins one time and the other side the other time? We really just don't know. It's very obvious that the reality they are living in is not what it seems.

A few of my own straggling questions...

*What's the deal with the building set to explode? That's the building the Keymaster brings Neo to, right? That's the building that holds: the mainframe, or a representation of the mainframe, or just the portal to the mainframe? If it does self-destruct, is a new portal to the mainframe established? Was that the 5 minute-blah blah interval the Keymaster was talking about?

*Is the Oracle really good, bad or indifferent? Or is she just serving her purpose of delivering the 'one' to the architect, so that he may make the 'choice' to restart the matrix?

*Do the Agents care to capture and/or eliminate Smith, if they could?

*Does the Architect's revealation of the resetting-matrix and the planted humans at reset invalidate Morpheus' account of 'history' from the first movie? Does it invalidate the 'prophecy?' (suppose the animatrix may have some answers to this...)

Maybe the Architect is just full of shit, and tells Neo that there was a whole bunch of guys before him? *shrug* I could see that happening. And that if he went threw the other door, he would be "erased" or some shit like that!?!?!?!?

BTW....maybe the architect of the Matrix is scared shitless that this guy is gonna wreck the Matrix?

BTW....from the first movie I was thinking to myelf, hey what if the guys that are out of the matrix, are just ina second Matrix?

What else would explain Neo being able to ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZap those bots?

BTW....how about those "mechs" (the guys in the walking exo-suits)?

What's not to understand? Do you want a summary of Matrix Reloaded? Or do you want speculation about the interesting revelations brought up in the movie? Marc-OS provided an excellent summary. As for interpretations... I'm sure everyone has a different opinion regarding this matter.

Morpheus said it himself. No one really knows what year it is, there's only speculation. As for 'history', read below:

The prophecy is not invalidated. Assuming the old counsel members are the original 7+1 males and 28 females from the last version of the Matrix, then they could've iniated the prophecy themselves: self-fulfulling prophecy. They probably concluded that this is the way it has always been, so they didn't fight it. Notice in the end how they are more concerned with Neo than with defending Zion.

A friend of mine pointed out that from the the Machines' POV, it's not so much a prophecy as a mathematical certainty. They know 99% of the matrix works fine, but the 1% is 'escaping' or 'recycled.' They know that eventually the 'One' will find the way to 'break' the matrix, which is why they have the Oracle to lead the One to the Architect to make his choice. The 'prophecy' is just the human spin on the underlying math that the machines baked into the system when they made it imperfect.
