cruise control install problem
Hi, I am trying to install a SCS cruise control onto a 2000 Cavalier. I've got all the connections made but it still doesn't work. I've checked all the power and switch connections and they appear to be getting proper voltage at the right wires when the switches are activated. I think my problem is getting the VSS wire working. I've tried checking it with a voltmeter to see if it changes when I move the car but I don't get any reading. I've tried connecting to the VSS in a couple of different locations but still can't get any results.
Is it possible that the VSS is inoperative? My speedometer and Tach work fine. Is there another place I can hook the sensor wire other than the Green/White VSS? Is it possible to connect directly to the speed sensor on the transmission? Thanks. |

Odds are pretty good that YES you need to tap into the speed sensor on the tranny. That was my problem when I installed a cruise on a '91 Saturn SL1 a few years ago. I am just curious......how big of a pain in the A$$ job has this install been so far?? Mine took over 40 actual hours of work when it was all said and done. I'll never do it again.
Anyway, you may want to check with the manufactuer before you start splicing into speed sensors, but I would guess that you are right....like I said, that was my problem. |

It only took about two hours to install and connect the wires. Now if only can get the d.... thing working. Still can't get it to sense the speed. Reckon will just have to keep on playing with it. Hooked up to the speed sensor at the transmission but still not getting any results. Will try some more dip switch settings. May just have received a bag unit.
