I have a '90 ford ranger 2wd...a couple of weeks ago, I found a pile of grease under the truck. Shortly after that, when I turn the steering wheel left I hear/feel vibration. I took the wheel off and found a 1/2" tear in the boot of the far left ball joint.
Question: If I replace the ball joint (followed by an alignment, of course) will it stop the vibration? thanks!!!! IceChickenX

need more info on your truck
Hi on your ranger does it have power steering? If its does i would check the fluid level because i havent heard of a vibration at the steering wheel caused by a ball joint when turning before. Is there a kind of growling type noise when you turn the steering wheel?

MGBGT,
Thanks for the reply...I will answer your questions first, then I will tell you the solution to my problem. My ranger does not have power steering (very basic truck). The problem: When I turned the wheel left it would vibrate, return to straight or turn right the noise would go away. Solution: Outside wheel bearing. I replaced the inside wheel bearings on both wheels when I did the breaks months ago, but I didn't do the outside (yes, I know foolish mistake...needless to say, it will be my last). Thanks for helping!
