questions and concerns

I have a few things going on with my 2005 pontiac grand prix SE. I was hoping some of you experienced people might have solutions! Thank you in advance.

The vehicle read passed when ran for codes. No warning lights are on. Just went over 100,000 miles.

1. When I try to start the car it hesitates and dies, unless I push on the gas pedal to give it a little extra gas.
I was told to check the fuel filter. Called the dealer and they said it is unserviceable. They recommended cleaning the throttle bodies. Can I do this myself, if so how?

2. Transmission seems to be slipping. When the gears are changing it jerks harder than usual. Should I have the transmission flushed?

3. The vents will not blow out any air sometimes. No cold or heat. You can hear the compressor running, but no air blows. Have been told maybe the dash panel is bad?

Any solutions, comments, or answers you all have would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions just ask please!

1. If you have the drive by wire system (which I am fairly positive you do) I think there is a TSB floating around for your exact issue, and the common correction is to remove and clean the throttle body. Its fairly simple, Just unplug the electrical connector, remove the bolts and it should come off. Make sure to do it when the car is cold because coolant flows through it. When you go to re-install it, clean all gasket surfaces and install a new gasket.

2. I say no on the flush. Thats generally opening a whole new can of worms. Was the pan ever dropped and the filter changed? If not, it might be a good time. Also review this thread by Bob (bnaylor) regarding hard upshifts. You may want to have the trans scanned for codes to see if P1811 popps up. Only a scanner capable of retreiving extended GM codes will be able to do this. Your best bet would be a tranny shop or the dealer.

3. Next time it acts up, I would check for voltage at the blower motor. I am not sure where its at on the 04+ GP's, but check behind the glove compartment. If you don't have voltage at the blower motor, you could have a bad blower module. Do you have an automatic or digital HVAC unit?

Not that it is unserviceable per se but an outside owner replaceable fuel filter doesn't exist on the '04 and up GPs. However, there is a fuel filter (filter sock) located at the fuel pump assembly. This is serviceable after you remove the fuel pump assembly.


Note:
All '04 and up GPs to include GXP have the drive by wire system and electronic throttle body. Also, there is no fuel supply return line going back to the gas tank. Pressure only from the fuel pump assembly.

At 100K miles you are due your first transaxle service. But you could do a pan drop - screen filter and ATF (Dexron VI) resupply only. Or take it to a GM dealer where they use a Kent-Moore type professional flush machine with special encapsulating detergent additive used only during the flush process.
