318 burning oil

I have a few problems here, Have a 97 ram 4wd 318 thats sucking down a quart of oil every couplehundred miles, i started to notice that after i cleaned the throttle body with carb cleaner,it was mucked up good. After cleaning that i also noticed that it idles eratically up and down after startup. Its got 140000 miles and only smokes a little at startup(puff of white smoke)valve seals maybe.Other than that it still runs good.I checked my oil and it looks fine doesnt look milky or anything. I dont know if its a sensor maybe or just coincidence, btw its not showing any codes, so anybody have any suggestions or ideas? Thanks Ron

Re: 318 burning oil

Pull the back to plugs. If they look asshy especially the passenger rear that the belly pan gasket under the lower intake is bad. Another way to confirm is check for vacuum inside the block. pinch off the PCV breather hose. Remove the PCV valve from the valve cover. Put your finger over the hole with the engine running. If it sucks your finger in than the gasket is bad.

It takes a lot of coolant to make your oil look milky, so I'd do an oil analysis to rule out a bad head gasket.
