B16s burn oil ? and cam gear ?

Two things I'm just curious about, my friend says all b16s are known for burning oil is this true? Also H4Bangin told me some peeps have told him AEM cam gears fuck up your timing belt after a while in some way, any one know if this is true, i have one but since that focker told me that, i havent put it on the si...so whats up?

burn oil when theyre looked after. ANY engine however WILL burn oil if you treat it like crap. And as for the AEM cam's I feel this too is just more of an operator error thing, as with anything installed incorrectly eventually it'll spank your parts. But uhm, doesnt your TIMING BELT fuck up your timing belt after time??? Hence the need to replace them at set intervals???

It depends if its been beat on. About AEM cam gears...YES its true. Why? Cause it has 3 bolts and it causes it to slip. Thats why most ppl recommend skunk2 cam gears cause they have 6 bolts. Theres other companys that have 6 bolt pattern cam gears also.

if you drive any motor hard, its gonna burn oil regardless... i have the skunk2 cam gears and they seem to work fine
i have heard that aem tends to slip for the reasons mellowboy stated

Ok....to everyone that talks shit on the AEM cam gear..how many of you have owned one ? Three bolts is plenty to hold it in place. They'll fuck up if your an idiot and don't snug them down. I have owned 2 and not one problem. Out of everyone that i know that owns one i have never heard of them having one problem.

Ok, I can answer the B16A/oil issue quite nicely. I've now owned my SiR for 3 years. Engine is still the engine that the car left the factory in. I use ONLY Mobil 1 synthetic oil or Honda "Type R" Synthetic in it. Oil changes are done every 5000-8000 kilometers. The car has 243,000 kilometers on it and is driven regulary in city conditions AND on 1000 km runs between Sydney and Melbourne at least 8 times a year.

I do NOT drive it gently (slave can attest to this), it regularly hits 8200rpm and cruises the freeway at 4100rpm @ 120km/h or 3900rpm @110km/h

I just got back from Melbourne yesterday having left from Sydney Saturday night. Total distance covered was 2600 kilometers at high speed. Last oil change was 6300 kilometers prior to the interstate run.

Bottom line is I rarely ever have to top up the oil between changes - if I do it's approx 200-300 mils. There are zero leaks and nothing comes out the tailpipe.

So in my experience, your mate is full of shit

Well i'm just the opposite. I know 3 ppl and one of them including my friend that fucked up on them. IF they dont fuck up ur car but u can hear them slip and makes kinda like a grinding noise. 3 bolts vs 6 bolts. IT doesn't take a genius figure out which is better.

XxLuckyLisaxX: If you drive like a grandma, the B16 isn't for you. You *need* to drive it like you stole it... I'm finally getting used to shifting @ 8000RPMs (not at every shift though).

Don't insult me in such a way dude, i do not drive like a grandma, far from it, people always tell my boyfriend, "i saw your girlfriend the other day driving, she mashes the fuck out of her car", i cant help it, i'm already used to shifting at about 7200rpms (just like u not every shift), but compared to my friends they race their shit all day everyday and for me I only do that about 70% of the time for fear of hurting my car. My friends constantly constantly have their engines blowing on them or their trannys never fails, so what does that tell me, you cant push your car to its max 100% of the time, especially if you want it to last....

My car's motor is in great shape, but if I drive over 85MPH all day, I'll have to add some oil, about 1/4 quart (I think that's a cup).
That's the wimpy D15 I'm talking about.
I do think that Honda engines of all sorts were made to wind up and they are happy in the high RPM ranges, which is part of the reason we like them. The other being that they don't fly apart like some of our other vehicles have under the same treatment.

My car is burning mad oil. Just replaced the headgasket due to a burtn valve and had the head done up all pretty new valve seals, two new valves but it still burns oil like mad. Bye bye pistion rings with only 125000 miles on the car.

The AEM cam gears do suck. I have done three cars with the AEM gears and with in 6 months, they are back cause the timing is off. The bolts do not hold time very well. On the other hand, the Skunk2 and i think it is the venom gears are great. Haven't had a problem with them yet on cars.
