Re: 96 villager miss fire when hot

Have you ever changed fuel pump????? Check fuel pressure with a gauge after fuel filter, if you can tape it too windshield wiper and observe from cold to warm up to see if you are losing fuel pressure.

ANother thing to check is the coil, you could try using a hair dryer and heated up the coil when the engine is completely cold and see if it acts up then.

ANother thing is remove distributor cap and rotor, then plate in distributor to see if there is any dust on the optical sensor (camshaft sensor), if so the bearing on shaft is going south and will need to replace distributor, the optical sensor could also be faulty.

hope this helps

Re: 96 villager miss fire when hot

not sure how old the wires are, just got the van just recently, they dont look to new, i did find out that the mounting brackets for the coil are broke and the the coil is just laying there, that cant be good. and i tryed to locate the fuel rail valve but cant seem to find it, would i have to tap in to the rubber fuel line to check pressure?

THere is not a valve on the fuel rail, just hook up a gauge after the fuel filter just us another piece of hose to connect it to the fuel filter.

Mount your coils, and lift your hood up at night!
Do you see any sparking with the engine running.

If not sure about the wires, it's probably worth replacing, because silicone wires will break down.

Re: 96 villager miss fire when hot

I do not believe the timing would be off unles timing belt has slipped. I would check the fuel pressure regulator to see if there is any gas in the vacuum line, if so replace regulator. If you don't check the fuel pressure you will be just guessing and throwing money at the problem without a fix. Timing should be 15-17 degrees.

Re: 96 villager miss fire when hot

Had a bad ignition module, that would cause the timing togo bad when it got warm.
Took the module off , and Advance Auto tested as being bad! the problem was resolved with a new ignition module.
