controversial question
There's a guy that live down the street from me that has a '97 Civic, similar to my '98. One day he was driving by and i though i saw a SI badge on the back of his car. He has the stock tailights for the '97 though. I figured he'd turned into one of those guys that puts Type-R badges on the back of their cars for no reason. You know what kind of people i'm talking about. He comes by later that week and says he had the 99-00 SI engine dropped into his '97. I was thinking of a swap later too but my more inquiring mind had to know why he still put the SI badge on. Can he legitimately put the SI badge on his '97 because he has the SI engine? I'm a little iffy on this one but i tend to lean toward the no answer.

i think it would be best if the emblems were with the original car. That's like putting a Type SH emblem on the back of a 92-95 civic with the type sh motor. That wouldn't look right. It's best to hide what you got. That's just my opinion.

i think as long as itz in the same family....and if i was that type of person i would....same as if i had a type r motor.....i think itz better than someone putting "powered by"

but was the motor the only change between the stock '97 and the 99-00 SI's?

i think putting badges on like that are very dumb even if you have the engine because its not just the engine that makes the type-r a type-r or an Si an Si. the 99-00 had a few changes from the regular 97 civic. the guages were different, the seats were different, the speaker system was different, it only came in red, blue, and black, had a chin spoiler on the front, the tailights were different, the wheels were different, it had 4 wheel disk brakes, color matched side moldings, and if im not mistaken a stiffer suspension. i think thats it for the Si but in no way would a b16 97 civic be an Si.

You can take the heart of an Si. But, not the physique of an Si.

I think just the engine does'nt justify a badge change. I know a guy with a 95 Si hatch that he basically converted to a JDM SiR II. He did everything except a right hand drive. By everything I mean even the damn power window system was JDM. For all of you who don't know but the JDM power system has the auto down feature like the USDM version but also has an auto up feature. If you take your passion to the full then it's " okay " to have the badge on there. So no an angine swap does not cut it.

Just an engine doesn't warrant it. I would take off all badges and keep 'em guessing! I like stealth.

Yes true. People can do whatever they want. But just because I can put a Ford emblem on my car doesn't make it right.

hrmmm...to all their own.
i personally would NEVER put type r stickers all over my teg if i swapped the b18c5 for mine. too many differences... its like B16EJ1 said...unless its COMPLETELY done, it really doesn't deserve the badging...

It's amazing to me how much stress a $20 emblem on a $10,000+ car can cause... I mean, that's only like 0.02% of the value of the car, tops, but people treat it like it's the most important thing ever. |

i dunno about all this funny badging business...
but heres something my friends and I go by "if your car's stock...don't pretend modded.. say its stock" "if your car's modded......say its stock "i guess i'd go by almost the same rule with these badges if your car's stock...leave the stock badges... if your car's modded...LEAVE THE STOCK BADGES i think its really funny how everybody puts these type-r's and powered by's all over their car.. i absolutely HATE it whenever i see a Prelude "type-R" - THERE WAS NO TYPE ARE DAMNIT! ONLY A TYPE-S and of course your car is POWERED BY HONDA....what else would it be powered by? YUGO!? lol ok...i'm calm now... |

I totaly agree with eskoobie! After an engin swap i would just take off my badges and shave the holes clean baby. Let them guess what you got and when they pull back up to you while your waiting for them at the next stop light, you can tell them to keep guessing LOL.
