Fuel Pump Access
This may be an odd request, but I was wondering if anyone knows or has access to a gas tank (mine is a 2000 Sub 1500).
What I would like is a set of dimensions to the center of the fuel pump I could use to reference to the inside so I could cut an access hole (under the rear seat) to replace the fuel pump. Maybe something from the center of the forward mounting strap, N-S and E-W. I was looking under the truck the other day but the tank is too covered in stuff to find the fuel pump. I can't even touch it in place. I don't have to replace the pump yet, but I think it may be close--probably this winter. I've seen this mod done on another forum and the replacement time goes to about 30 minutes. I'll post some pictures when I do this modification. Thanks |

use an 1/8 inch drill bit. then drill a hole thru the floor.using this as a reference mark out the floor and cut out a section with a cutoff wheel. make the hole bigger than you need. using some heavy gauge galvanized metal cover the hole and using a good sealant like dow 795. seal the edge and use very short sheel metal self tap screws to hold the panel in place. |

Re: Fuel Pump Access
Most likely you'll have to drop the tank to get the N-S, E-W references you need. Keep in mind you'll also have to have room to get the electrical and fuel line connections off and back on.
Good luck
