Question about air conditioning.

I have a "95 Honda Civic EX, with the 1.6 liter VTEC motor. The air conditioning is just about dead. I suspect that it is low on refrigerant. I'm not in the mood to spend any money on that right now. I live in western Washington, and summer is just about over. I don't expect to need the AC until next June or July. I would like to just ignore the AC until then. There is one thing that concerns me, though. A friend told me it's bad for the compressor to leave it with no refrigerant. Is that true?

Re: Question about air conditioning.

No that's not true. It would be bad for the compressor if it ran out of oil and was engaged. It's pretty hard to have it engage if it has little or no pressure.
