GM Engineers suck

'96 K2500 Sub
I finally pulled my rt rear tire to diagnose a leak in my rear AC lines. The engineer that designed that back area is an idiot. There is a vertical 'plate', almost looks like its supposed to be a small splash guard, in the inner wheel well. Well, the leading edge has a very nice, sharp point - sitting right against the AC line, which has now made a sweet incision in the line.
I wonder if I could claim it as a design issue and have my local dealer replace the line under warranty? YA RIGHT!!!

I just ordered an aluminum brazing kit to repair it. And that leading edge is gonna meet a BFH and be beat to a pulp!!!!! Wish I had a pic of the design engineer, I'd put his face on it!

don't forget GM engineers design these to go 10 yrs and 120,000mi . then they expect these problems to occur, this is so you will buy a new vehicle. Its just not in THEIR best interest to design these vehicles to last ... the ac line failing is not a saftey issue. the brake lines rust out after only a few years up here in the rust belt yet no recall and they continue to use inferior quality materials.

Re: GM Engineers suck

My 1994 Suburban was in the middle of the 1994-1996 GM windshield wiper recall, and mine had the exact same issue, but my VIN was not on "the list", so GM would not take care of it (wanted $50 for the part and $50 for installation when I bought it in 2000). Guess what, I found a solder fix on the Internet, and GM service has never received one cent of my money.

And it's not just the engineers: I had leaks between the brake master cylinder reservoir and the cylinder itself numerous times, and GM or aftermarket does not even list or sell the rubber seals separately (like Mazda does for my B2200), makes one purchase an entire MC. Thank goodness for lifetime warranty parts; I had to exchange several times before I got one that didn't leak there (remember-that's a low pressure/no pressure seal !!!).

I will say one thing about that 1994 though: front heater core replacement is easy, was very surprising. And alternator and AC compressor are on top of the engine.

Re: GM Engineers suck

If mine (it's a '94) did that, I'd cut BOTH lines and install cutoff valves and R134a service fittings so I could evacuate, repair, and recharge the rear air system without tampering with the front.
