1994 Corsica 3.1 Thermostat replacement

Hi all,

{edit I'm a big dummy} Car is a 4 cylinder and thread title is wrong. Shoulda looked better.

I'm new here, first post. Marginal mechanical skills, and a 150-ish piece set of metric/sae tools. I have done an ok job with occasional maintenance and repair on my toyota tacoma and my 07 Kawi KLR 650, but you may have to type slow sometimes.

We just bought my daughter a 94 corsica with the 4cyl. The PO, my aunt (who took pretty decent care of the car) noted that she was having "a little trouble with the heater" before she bought a new car a few months ago.
I drove it home yesterday in 95 degree heat, city and interstate, and the temp needle never got above about 1/4 if the way up.

My buddy is thinking a stuck-open thermostat, sounds reasonable to me.

I searched, and this thread here does not make this sound like a fun job.

I'm just hoping the 94 is easier to deal with than that poor guy's 96 model.

Oh, yeah, my question. My communicatin' skills are about on par with my wrenchin'.

Is the housing this guy, tucked in between exhaust manifold and what looks like water pump?

Or this one, looking nice and easy to get to?

Both hoses seem to come of the bottom of the radiator.

On 2nd thought, mods if you would, please delete the thread. It's gonna be too confusing for peeps who want to answer, and for those searching the board in the future.

Thanks, running to the store to get a new t-stat!
