Want to know the basics of shock replacement.

I want to learn more about replacment shocks. Here is what I think I know so far. Am I right?

Heavy duty shocks are for heavy loads such as truck with camper shell. These shocks will ride a bit hard when driving without the added load.

Gas shocks (not heavy duty). These are more responsive, thus giving a smoother ride than convention shocks in passenger vehicles.

Reflex shocks (with the sensor inside). Still an even better ride and steering than gas shocks. But will these work well for heavy loads, meaning can you use these if you have a camper shell on the truck?

I'd like to be able give as detailed a recommendation as possible. What's the vehicle? What's typical usage?

Er, ah, thanks for the reply, but here is the catch. I work selling parts at a automotive counter, with nearly no parts training. When a customer asked questions about which shock to buy, I want to give an short informative answer. So a very very brief summary is what I need.

Your summary is fairly accurate. We don't work with Monroe Reflex shocks which you're apparently referring to but based on what I've heard of them it these shock are designed to momentarily soften up so that the force of the bump is not transferred to the passengers.

So these shocks aren't really intended for heavy loads.
