hello newcomer

im having some trouble with my wheel studs.
i recently purchased the non-hub removal studs but they were too short, so i exchanged them for the long ones.
how do i go about correctly removing and replacing the hub assembly?

Re: hello newcomer

Front or rear?

You can consult the tips and maintenance subforum. There is a write-up there about hub removal and replacement. Although it is for a 97-03 GP, yous will be very similar.

I, like you, went to replace one of me studs with the shorter type. I used the shorter one for a while. They actually do fit, and are long enough to get the lug nut on. Only problem was that after a few oil changes, the threads on the shorter lugnut became messed up. It was right around the time that my hub was going bad, so I just replaced the whole hub.

Re: hello newcomer

even with the alloy wheels? they were only long enough to turn 2-3 times and i just didn't feel safe with that.

edit
the wheels are a different style. mine are the cross checked, non-twisted. then next gen had crosschecked twisted, next gen was five star, the next gen was 5 star off set. idk what they use now.

Re: hello newcomer

1 shorter stud out of 5 should be fine. I ran like that all winter long. Just be carefull you and use a torque wrench when you put your wheels on or youll strip those threads off your new stud. I did and I even used a torque wrench.

Re: hello newcomer

Sorry, but if it were possible to install the OEM length studs without removing the hub from the car, why would they offer the shorter stud? Your only choices are shorter stud, or remove hub to install OEM length stud.
