Blower motor or blower motor resistor?

My 2003 Chrysler sebring air conditioner has gradually gone out. Levels 1 and 2 went out about 2 years ago. Level 3 went out a few months back and recently level 4 stopped working. I now have no air coming out. I am not very good with cars so does this sound like the blower motor resistor is bad? Or is it the blower motor itself. Thanks!

Re: Blower motor or blower motor resistor?

It's worth trying the blower motor resistor since so many of us have had this problem and fixed it relatively easily. See http://www.automotiveforums.com/t294308.html or use the Google search on this fine site for "blower motor resistor". Pictures and lots of help included! Ya gotta have air movement...

It's a long thread but maybe this is a better link... http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t294308.html

Re: Blower motor or blower motor resistor?

i would change the resistor but your probably gonna find that the resistor has gone bad because the blower motor is pulling too many amps through it if you can afford it the best option would be to replace both at the same time

Re: Blower motor or blower motor resistor?

I replaced the blower resistor based on forum info. The blower would work on any speed, but only after I went over the right kind of bump. After replacing the resistor, still no blower. Since the blower works (after the right bump) at all speeds, what could it be? FYI the blower only works until I shut the car off. Then I may drive for an hour or a week before the "right bump in the road".

Any ideas?

Probably a bad spot on the armature. Replace the blower motor.
