Merc CLK

Hey guys
With Webbo doing well in F1, I would like to do something of a retrospective of his motorsport career & his climb to the lead in the championship. I tracked down a set of decals to do his Minardi, but I am curious to find out which one of Tamiya's Merc CLK kits would be a suitable starting point as his Le Mans flyer - literally.

Re: Merc CLK

I beleive Mark flipped a CLR GT1...(possibly more than once?)

The Various Tamiya kits represent CLK GTR's.

CLK GTR

CLR GT1

As you can see, they are very different cars and would require an immense amount of work to convert a CLK to CLR.

However, I'm pretty sure he raced the CLK also, you might get away with adding driver name decals to the Tamiya kit for this one..... Google is your friend.

Regards, Dan

Re: Merc CLK

Thanks mate. I'm aware of which car MW was driving at the time.
I also had various google pages loading when I posed my enquiry. Looking at a LOT of pics of Mark's & Dumbreck's cars from the race, I have concluded they look more like the CLK from previous years. I did come across the CLR pic you posted, but it doesn't look the same around the front grille & rear 3/4 areas as the car shown in any of the flip pics.

That's what you might think from that angle, but the cars that flipped look quite different from the Tamiya CLK in the first photo.

Here's a picture of what I think is the Black Box CLR kit that was done previously but currently unavailable. I think Profil24 did the kit for Black Box.

It was a CLR in '99. Flipped due to aerodynamic design flaws. Same thing for his teammate.

Here's a nice link if you plan on doing a build and need reference pics: http://www.stjarna.is/spjall/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=15092

One of the 3 cars flipped twice and another once. The third one was withdrawn within the race. The Flips happened in qualification, warmup and start of the race if I recall correctly.
