Dual exhaust on 86 landau

Hi. I've been wanting to put true duals on my 86 caprice for a while now. I know of the crossmember issue but was wondering what I can do about it. I've seen numerous caprices in my year range with true duals so I know it's possible. Can u swap in a different crossmember? Or beat the crap outta the driver side of mine to clear the exhaust? Is there anyone on this site that already has duals and would like to show me a pic? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Dual exhaust on 86 landau

Weld a 1" inward extension to the left side of the frame, where the crossmember bolts, and use a "Tri-9" LT1 crossmember.

go to a custom muffler shop . they will cut/weld the support , for this to be proper. go to a place that has done this. I have a shop my way that makes this look better than OEM.

you need a welder and metal cuting equiptment

If you are getting a custom-bent exhaust system made, there is a slightly easier way.
Route the left side exhaust under the oil pan or converter housing. Then run both exhaust pipes through the stock cross member hump, on the right side of the transmission.
Then route the left side pipe under thr driveshaft just behind the trans tail stock. Then run both pipes over the rear axle, to the rear bumper, with mufflers just in front of the rear axle.

I did this on my '81 Fleetwood (with headers),which has the same frame as your Caprice (but a bit longer). This set up has plenty of clearance, is neat and trouble-free.
