A/C gremlin

Greetings,

I have a 1989 buick lesabre 3.8L. I recently installed a completely new A/C system. compressor, receiver, lines, evap,orifice
tube, condenser everything. It worked for about a month then the clutch broke. I got a new compressor vac and charged it worked great then the evap sprung a leak. I repalced evaprater vac and charged now all of the sudden it will not cycle on. nor will the radiator fan blades turn on. my engine coolent was spewing out of the overflow resovery last night but the temp light did not come on. I recenlty blew a fuse for the radio and climate control center but replaced it. The a/c controls are working. Im really stumped. any ideals? thanx

t
he manafold gague reading is 110 for low side and 100 for high sided. I know this is not normal.

Without the compressor being engaged you won't have your normal readings. I think you need to recover, and open the system. Check the orifice tube. See if it shows signs of debris floating around. If so, a complete flush will be necessary (and a new orifice and accumulator.) Your bad compressor could have sent junk through the system which could be clogged here or there.

Re: A/C gremlin

Engine overheating (at least blowing coolant) and no temp light.

The high/low side pressure, with the compressor off, just gives an indication of the ambient air temperature in/around the A/C gear if there is more than a trace amount of any charge, and with the compressor off they should end up about equal. Is the system still R-12 or has it been converted to R-134a?

Check radiator/coolant reservoir cap to ensure it is holding pressure. A bad cap can allow boil-over at lower temperatures.

Check coolant strength, should be at least 50% antifreeze, and 60% is arguably better, but no more than 70%.

I do not know the '89, so this may be off, but check the engine coolant temperature sensor and its circuit. It may have failed so the PCM does not know to call for fan cooling.

If the car thinks the air temp is around 40 or below the A/C may not turn on.

Re: A/C gremlin

The car has a new 134a system.(compressor, hoses, condensor, dryer, evap. etc)
