Engine Pinging

Have a friend with a 2003 F-150 with a 5.4 with 40,000 mile. Started pinging 2 tanks of fuel ago and is not setting any codes. Any ideas ? Thanks

Mixture could be too lean. Check for a vacuum leak. Ignition timing is probably advanced too much.
