97 Tahoe Runnung Rough after Manifold Gasket Replacement
I recently replaced the lower manifold gasket on my 97 Tahoe Vortec. After putting everything back together and trying to start it, it cranked very slowly. Along with the new gasket, I purchased a new distributor, cap, rotor, plugs and wires. The disty gears looked worn, etc... so I decided to replace all of this while I was able to get to everything. Put everything back in it's place but installed the disty off by about 180 degrees by accident, hence the very labored starting result. Had my wife do the "bump" ignition proceedure to get the #1 piston to TDC. Read here where the rotor needed to be pointing at the #1 spark plug wire on the rotor and repositioned the distributor to acheive that result. Voila! The engine started and happens to run, but does not idle. When it runs it is very rough. Hopped out and advanced the distributor one gear and it would not start. Retarded the distributor back 2 gears and it will not start...just cranks very slowly as before. Put the disty back to the location when it ran and it seems to like that. Tried to hand turn the disty while the engine is runnng and it's not really having any effect. So now I am stuck. The engine runs very rough and will not idle. It shuts off as soon as I let off the gas. I checked all of my electrival connections and all the other connections on the items I had to remove when I did the gasket replacement and everything is in it's proper place with the correct wire connected, etc... Any ideas?
