good subs is a very broad term, some subs are good for volume whereas others are good for sound quality. My personal fav is the JL W7 its kinda spendy tho, the W6 is good also, Infinity perfects are good-I have a couple of those. As for the sealed vs ported question, a sealed box is just a speaker screwed to a box, a ported box is the same as sealed but has a port(hole) in it. You should also check out band-pass boxes, they produce more volume...well, at least for me

well i have 2 12" Alpine type R's in my crx in a sealed box, and they pund hardcore, hard enough to skip my deck

anyway, ive owned all three box types, sealed, ported, and bandpass, and have theorized that the sealed box its the hardest and is also the cleanest sounding of the three.

some good brands are, Orion Pro's, JL, Rockford Fosgate, Alpine, Infinity

Good Subs are: JBL, Kicker, MTX, Eclipse, Rockford Fosgates are ok..

Good Amps are JBL, MTX, AudioBahn, Alpine.

Good Speakers are Alpine, Pioneer, Kenwood

personally, i think JBL"z are best amps and woofers, but in my set up, i got Alpine deck, w/ All Digital Audio for my speakers, subs, amps, They arent well known, more luxury type , but badass. And right now, im also working on custom installation of subs and speakers in the trunk.. then later some tweeterz in my plastic things in front ( forgot name ) that are on both sides of window .. but thas my $0.02

I have a JL 500/1 amp and an Alpine DVC 12" Type R sub.

That thing fukking knocks.

The only problem that I had with the TypeR, is that the wires to the speaker terminals are poorly designed. When the Woofer cone moves up and down, it puts stress on these tiny 14 gauge wires. After about 6months, mine started coming loos from the cone. Now the speaker is pretty much garbage. I had 2 $75 Jbl's that took more abuse than the Alpine, and there still in good shape. I wouldn't spend another $300 on an Alpine. Personally, I dont think there is any better quality in Subs more than the Infinity's and Boston Accoustic's.

By the way, does anyone have any 8" Infinity Kappa's they want to part with? They don't sell 8" Subs anymore, and I dont want 2 10's

IMO
Best Subs: JBL, Rockford Fosgate, Pioneer, Alpine, Lanzars (i got 2 10's in my car and they hit REALLY nicely, mirrors shake when i have the volume at 6, the box is also ported, 2 ports per sub and also have the divider wall inside)

Best Amps: Pioneer, MTX, JBL, Lightning Audio, Rockford Fosgate

Best Speakers: Pioneer, Infinity, Alpine

thats just my 2 cents, i'm sure u guys may disagree with me on one thing or another :finger:

Baised opion(sponsor)
Subs: VIPER
Amp: VIPER
Speakers: DEI

IMO
Subs: RE are the best bang for the buck. $250 and they sound real good

Amps: Tosss up, i do like my viper amp but if the rumore i hear are true, REs new amps might kick ass. Try alpine or the new orion amps.

Speakers: Hands down kicker and concept. My firend runs concept and kicker in her car and she competes in SQ events.

damn dude, you spent 300 for one alpine R, you got ripped.

i got both of mine, plus the sealed and built to alpine spec box for like 280.

and i have not had any problems with my DVC wires coming unattached.
