you have the trailer wired wrong..

with the brake light on /on truck use meter find wire with 12volts ...this is the brake wire..with the trailer wires not connected temp touch the trailer wires to the 12v truck brake lt wire ..with the trailer brake lts on yo have that done ...then locate the left/right tailer lts then the run lights..

now you know what goes where and then make your connections..

Here is a diagram of 7 pin trailer wiring:
http://www.horsetrailerworld.com/home/wiring.asp
Be sure you look at the second diagram and match up the trailer pinouts with the plug pinouts...as you can see the plug looks backwards when you look at it end on. I had a problem because my truck was wired for a travel trailer and I plugged in a horse trailer...for some reason they aren't the same. I agree it's very confusing and I ended up taking truck and trailer to a trailer repair place and they fixed it real fast. I have some friends that while 50 miles away bringing a baby horse back on a freeway that was down to one lane because of construction with no center median the center pin shorted the brake wire and the trailer brakes slammed on. It tied up traffic for miles and miles. They got the baby home safe however and the trailer just needed a new plug.
