Question idles funny, when it idles

i have a 95, base model, i think its got the 2.2 in it but anyways, i got in it tonight, and it dinged when i hit the key, thats problem one, i got out, wiggled the neg. wire on the batter, got back in, and started it again, it cranked, revved a little, and died. perplexed, i cranked it over again and held the go peddle a little, it started and ran fine...until i let off the peddle, it died...again. i'm thinking its the IACV, but i've been wrong before, although ordinarily when this car idles, its realy rough, it almost sounds like its only firing on 2, maybe 3 cylinders, i know its not the plugs, wires or coil packs, because they're all new, i don't think its the injectors, but again, i've been wrong before, but after you give it a little gas, it smooths almost completly and you can barely tell its not perfect. so i was wondering if there's anyone who has had this problem before and fixed it, or has a lot of knowlege on these cars and could tell me how to fix it
